History
The name “Okanta” derives from both, the word “Okonta” meaning “cacao plant” in Muzo language, and, the Spanish word “encantar” meaning “enchanting”.
“Okanta” is a reminder of:
- The local development boost we bring in the areas in which we operate, working in a direct and inclusive relationship with smallholder cacao farmers.
- The magic that appears in the making of quality cacao beans seduces and delights the palate of chocolate consumers.
In brief, Okanta translates the enthusiasm and joy that this project conveys.

Our model
The integrated business model for quality, transparency, and equity.
We collect wet cacao at farms, centralize the postharvest process, and market outstanding quality cacao beans with a unique flavor profile while creating a successful development within Colombian
cacao growing communities.
In this way, and through a joint venture between local associations and private entrepreneurs, we ensure smallholder farmers are at the heart of our value proposition, at the center of our activities, and not only included in our operations but also our strategy as business partners. Only then it’s a reciprocal partnership. We treat their farm as if they were ours. They act as a direct shareholder of the company.
